The tragic events in Burma since mid August are reflected extremely clearly astrologically. Using the chart for independence, 1948, you can see that Jupiter was exactly on the Ascendant when the first disturbances occurred, prompted by a 500% increase in fuel prices. Mars is also prominent - as would be expected - being exactly square its natal position and the transiting south node is conjunct that natal Mars. Both a rise in prominence and an increase in agitated feelings were to be expected.

Transiting Saturn, and its recent opposition to Neptune, were around the degrees of Burma's natal Saturn. Saturn returns to its own natal position around every 30 years and this is associated with structural adjustments, underlying order, regulations and law, and the essential core of what ever it is that you're looking at. The essence of Burma itself has been questioned.

Striking this same note in a different tone is transiting Uranus over the IC. The IC and fourth house are associated with foundations, both in a physical and metaphorical sense. The underlying principles are about to be revolutionized, thrown into disarray and blown out of the water - Uranus is in Pisces remember.

As far as transits for the day are concerned you have a big build up in Leo, just past that natal Saturn. You've got Saturn, Mercury, Sun and Venus conjunction. This could be seen as throwing light on the matter? Don't forget that Venus doesn't have to be all sweetness and light. The ancient goddesses were as much to do with battles and with fluffy, sugary stuff. Especially when she's trine to Pluto.

Bringing in the progressions you can see a further focus on Saturn. There is a grand trine of progressed planets in fire: Mars conjunct natal Saturn in Leo, Moon and Jupiter in Sagittarius and Venus in Aries. Lots of energy is being focuses through this natal point. What is the essential nature of Burma? That this is extremely fragile is stated again by the progressed Moon being opposite natal Uranus. Progressed Mercury is exactly opposite this natal Saturn. Could this be the outlet that is needed?

It wasn't until mid September that the Monk's protests started to give a higher profile to the events and move it up the international news agenda. This reflects the involvement of Jupiter and Sagittarius extremely well. On 19 September the transiting T-square of Pluto in Sagittarius, Sun in Virgo and Mars in Gemini picking up the progressions mentioned above and the natal Saturn and Uranus. The transiting Moon joins Pluto to align both shorter and longer cycles.

The increasing protests provoked a shut down on 28 September. Monasteries are sealed and internet access to the rest of the world is shut down. This sees the transiting Moon and Venus move to join with the existing grand trine: Moon from Aries with progressed Venus and Venus from Leo with progressed Mars and natal Saturn. Don't forget grand trines are closed systems...

This was following the Full Moon at 3 Libra. The Uranus Jupiter square will take place on 9th. This is likely to shake everything up again but I suggest that a day to watch will be 13 October as this is the day of the Saturn Venus conjunction on the degree of the lunar eclipse at 4 Virgo/Pisces? This is just after the New Moon at 17 Libra. It's also just after Mercury stations retrograde. Perhaps we get another option open to us at this point?

Transits to an eclipse point trigger the energy of that eclipse. This lunar eclipse is very unusual in that Saturn is the first planet to reach it. Saturn will also station conjunct Burma's Mars towards the end of the year. This could be suppression of violence or suppression of spirit. There are enough positive notes to have hope. However, it does seem that the way forward is not clear or free of danger. The progressed Sun is heading towards the natal IC. Perhaps this can bring some light to the underlying situation?
