William Morris -
A Treasured Legacy?

6 October 2007

View Chart William Morris with progressions and transits for 5 October

William Morris was born in Walthamstow and the house in which he spent his early years in now know as William Morris house which has been maintained as a museum by Waltham Forest council.

Earlier this year plans to cut the opening hours of the William Morris house and Vestry house museums prompted campaigns to stop the erosion of the already sparse cultural services in Waltham Forest: Keep our Museums Open. Yesterday I was sent a link to a report of the council's plans, which indicates deep cuts to the existing services, including the sacking of the curator and his deputy. Suffice it to say I was rather cross and said so on my MySpace page. I thought it would be interesting to see how this was reflected in Morris's chart.

The first thing I noticed was that transiting Jupiter was exactly conjunct his ascendant. Jupiter has been over this degree earlier in the year due to its retrograde cycle which fits well with the beginning of the story - it didn't just start that week. Jupiter has also made two squares to Uranus and is about to make the final third one on 9 October at 15 Sagittarius/Pisces picking up, not just the ascendant, but also his Moon at 15 Virgo.

His natal Mars and Uranus are closely conjoined at 24 Aquarius, which if you remember, was close to the exact aspect of the Saturn Neptune opposition earlier this year. This planetary combination is related with undermining, of structure and purpose, brings confusion, and diminishes stature. There are eclipses which pick up these degrees in February 2008 so this may ripple on. Transiting Mars was at 2 Cancer which squares his Sun very tightly and squares his Venus and Saturn with a slightly wider orb. The previous Full Moon was at 3 Libra, opposite his Sun and Venus and not far from his Saturn and the coming New Moon is at 17 Libra, exactly on his MC. This New Moon is the day after the emergency meeting which has been called by the campaign group.

Seeing this New Moon gives me some hope. Also Jupiter and Pluto will move into Capricorn in January 2008 which will pick up the Aries/Libra planets. His progressed Mars will edge towards the end of Gemini but doesn't reach Cancer until 2012, hopefully this will have been resolved by then.

It's amazing how charts continue to work after the person they "belong" to has died. We may all be one but perhaps our individual echo continues?
