At midnight tonight Northern Ireland will once more have direct rule. It seems hopeful that of all the "Hot Degrees" associated with this story only two points, 9 mutable and 20 fixed are featured here. And what a feature, a Sun Pluto conjunction picking up 9 Sagittarius, reaching exactitude at 10 - power and authority are transmuted and transformed.

Irish Devolution

Mercury is at 19 Scorpio, edging from 16 Scorpio, square the Mars of the Republic chart, on Saturday when the Ulster unionists made their historic decision to sit with Sinn Fein in the executive, to square the Ascendant of the republic chart at 20 Leo.

Loyalists' decision to share power

This Mercury is encouraging, the only aspects it makes are to Saturn and Uranus - communication is focused on moving from the old to new and is not focussing on old baggage and dogma. These three are in a T square with the Mars of the Republic chart falling in the empty leg. The review they have committed to coincides with an eclipse conjunct Uranus at 16 Aquarius on 5 February 2000. The energy of decommissioning resounds around this point, which was also heavily hit by the 11 August 1999 eclipse.

The announcement occurred within a few minutes of the Sun Moon trine which will support the leadership in bringing all of the membership forward. This will not be easy, many years of entrenched thinking must be left behind, but may take effect over a broader spectrum than effected. This Sun Moon trine also picks up the chart for the DUP - the IC and the Sun. Change is taking place at the deepest level.

Strangely enough the DUP share an ascendant with the Irish Republic - isn't there a saying that looking in the mirror is a most uncomfortable thing?

McGuiness apointed education minister

Gerry Adams nominated Martin McGuinness to take the Education portfolio at 17.46. They were the fourth party to make their nominations, coming after the DUP. It is therefore surprising that they should complain at Sinn Fien taking this post when they had chosen not to take it. Sorry, I promised no politics.

This chart is awesome. If you take a look at the UK reorganisation chart you can see the descendant at 7 Sagittarius and Mars at 27 Aquarius, both of these are picked up in the nomination chart. The Sun Chiron conjunction on the descendant of the reorganisation chart shouts volumes of the intentions of transcending the past and the "Them and US" situation. The MC is at 26 Aquarius, very near the Mars, bringing the humanism of the Aquarian Mars to the fore. Once again we are not clear of decommissioning.

We have Mars in Leo vs. Mars in Aquarius. The IRA have stated that they will not decommission on demand. If they choose to give up their weapons it will be because they have chosen to do so, not because they are required to do so. If you think you can hear Uranus, you're quite right, it being opposite Mars in the Easter Rising chart. We are also edging towards their Uranus return.

So will the Sun come out?

Progress from here looks promising but like any Uranus heavy situation, direct requests and question are unhelpful and likely to send Sinn Fein off in the other direction just to prove a point. Kid gloves are in order, but we can think seriously about putting the umbrella away.
