When a transiting planet returns to its natal position it has returned and you can cast a chart for the exact moment this happens. In the older books this is referred to as a revolution – as in turning rather than over throwing, although the principle isn’t that far removed.
Solar returns and lunar return are commonly used in forecasting but you can also use Mercury, Venus and Mars. Each chart lasts until the next return, a year for a solar return, a month for a lunar return.
The slower moving points are generally not used as charts but as points of a cycle highlighting general development. See cycles.
