About Claire Chandler
Astrological Experience
A Consulting Astrologer based in London, England, I am the
President of the Astrological
Lodge of London and was the Editor of Astrology Quarterly,
their publication from 2001 – 2004. I have been the
secretary of the APAE
(the Advisory Panel for Astrological Education) since 2001.
Astrology has been part of my life for a long as I can remember.
I began serious study in 1993 when the Uranus Neptune conjunction
squared my Moon. I have been giving professional consultations
since 1995. I first set up this website in 1997 and have keep
it broadly up to date since then.
Formal Study
I studied with the Faculty
of Astrological Studies, am certified by Continuum,
the Jim Lewis foundation ,as a practitioner of Astro*Carto*Graphy,
have studied towards the Diploma in Medieval Astrology (DMA)
with Robert
Zoller and studied Horary Astrology (Qualifying Horary
Practitioner with Olivia Barclay). I have also taken the Certificate
in Counselling Skills with the Gestalt Centre in London, I
felt that this was a skill I needed to acquire for my client
work.
Less Formal Study
Other astrologers I have studied with include Sue
Tompkins, Christeen
Skinner, Jane Rachael Malcolmson, and Lyndsay Radermacher
while at the Faculty of Astrological Studies, and Noel
Tyl, Robert
Hand, Robert Zoller, Erin
Sullivan and Nick
Campion. Mundane and business astrology have always fascinated
me and I have undertaken further study of these areas with
Christeen
Skinner.
Research and Interests
My particular areas of interest are Mundane and Political
Astrology, Eclipses, Cycles and the place of the individual
within a larger system. Currently my focus is towards the
traditional but that doesn’t mean that I don’t
give due regard to the experience of the client.
Away from astrology, politics and history are my fascinations.
Lecturing
I have lectured and taught on a variety of subjects. Areas
of particular expertise are Mundane astrology, eclipses, cycles
and essential dignity. I have contributed to various seminars
at the Astrological Lodge of London, spoken at several astrological
groups in the South East of England and at AA Conferences
in 2004 and 2007. I will be speaking at UAC 2008.
Other Experience
After leaving university in 1990, with a degree in Economics
and Computing, I completed the management training programme
of a major UK retailer, gaining a variety of skills and experience,
and spent several years with the firm, becoming a valued,
trouble shooting manager.
In 1994, I took advantage of voluntary redundancy, which
coincided with a progressed New Moon conjunct natal Moon,
to leave and establish myself as a professional astrologer.
Having become aware of the necessity of a day job I combined
formal, paid employment with my astrological practice and
other astrological work. I now work from 9 – 5 as a
Project Manager, with special responsibility for training,
for a media company in central London and manage to combine
this with semi professional work as an astrologer –
consultations, writing and teaching – and being President
of the Astrological
Lodge of London.
I studied economics at postgraduate level at Birkbeck College,
part of the University of London. When not probing the hidden
patterns of the Universe I enjoy cooking and now mourn my
beloved Wimbledon F.C. I am also interested in English and
American traditional music. Somehow, I manage to find the
time to help run Walthamstow
Folk Club with Russ Chandler, Kevin Sheils and Sandra
Murphy.
Claire Simms is now Claire Chandler having married Russ Chandler
in July 2003.
