Recommended Reading
There are so many astrological books out there that you can end up with
a lot of rubbish if you're not careful.
Here are a few which should grace any bookshelf.

A wonderful introduction to the basics of astrology. She uses a psychological
approach but this book is good enough to be read by anyone and holds up to continued
re-reading.

Sue Tompkins
This is one of my desert island astrology books. The chapter on weighting
is worth the purchase price in its own right. One that everyone should have
read.

Twelve Houses:
Introduction to the Houses in Astrological Interpretation
Howard Sasportas
A psychological analysis of the houses, including different ascendants, planets
in houses and an appreciation of the whole concept of houses.
The
Inner Planets
Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas
Taken from lecture transpripts this books looks at Mercury, Venus and Mars
from a variety of perspectives.
The
Luminaries
Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas
Taken from lecture transpripts this books looks at the Sun and Moon from a
variety of perspectives.
Both The Inner Planets and The Luminaries give an excellent overview of the
personal points in the horoscope.
Neptune

An extensive analysis of Neptune, its mythology, symbolism and astrological
application.
Melanie Reinhart, Lynn Bell, Liz Greene and Darby Costello look at Mars.
Melanie Reinhart looks at the four angles and the Moon's nodes.
Liz Greene looks at the darker side of human experience.
Liz Greene looks at defence mechanisms and where they can be found in the
horoscope.
Liz Greene looks at the way our horoscope can manifest and also at the progressed
horoscope.
Edith Hathaway gives a good overview of astrological principles including

The latest edition of Melanie Reinhart's fabulous book on Chiron. Covering
the mythology, astronomy and astrology of the planetoid, if you're interested
in Chiron you must read this book.

This book on Chiron gives a more esoteric treatment of the material.

Tracy Marks
A fabulous book dealing with the psychological basis of astrology. Wonderful
material on the Moon and the Nodes, thought provoking chapters on the transits
of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto and invaluable material on working with clients.

Julia and Derrek Parker
This book takes you from the very beginning through to intermediate interpretation.
If you have to start with just one book, this will give you all the tools you
need. A previous edition was where I came in.

Frances Sakonian and Lois Acker
A thorough overview of basic astrology.

Predictive

The Eagle and the Lark
Bernadette Brady
An essential read if you want to do predictive astrology. Brady covers the
basic materials (planets, signs, houses and aspects), transits, progressions,
methods for dealing with information overload, eclipses and some older methods.

Book of Fixed Stars
Bernadette Brady
Bringing the use of fixed stars up to date and into a form which you can use
with clients. Not everyone with Sun conjunct Regulus will be a king.
Traditional and Horary Astrology

The Real Astrology
John Frawley
The Real Astrology and The Real Astrology Applied are required reading if
you want to have a perspective on Traditional Astrology. Not just horary astrology,
these two books give you a taste of the philosophy which under pins the tradition.
Frawley's master class on horary astrology. All his experience distilled into
one book - and he's got rid of the stuff which doesn't work and given modern
examples. Beg borrow or steal. But if they had this book they'd find you...
